2025 New Edition, List of Substances with Both Food and Medicinal Properties (106 kinds)

On November 17, 2023, the National Health Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation of China jointly issued the "Announcement on the Implementation of Substances That Are Both Food and Traditional Chinese Medicine" (No. 9 of 2023), including nine substances: Codonopsis pilosula, Cistanche deserticola, Dendrobium officinale, Panax quinquefolius, Astragalus membranaceus, Ganoderma lucidum, Cornus officinalis, Gastrodia elata, and Eucommia ulmoides, into the catalog of substances that are both food and traditional Chinese medicine (referred to as food-medicine substances). No drugs may be added to food products, however, substances that are traditionally both food and medicine (food-medicine substances) may be added.

On August 26, 2024, the National Health Commission and the State Administration for Market Regulation of China jointly issued an announcement, deciding to officially include four substances—Rehmannia glutinosa, Ophiopogon japonicus, Asparagus cochinchinensis, and Aurantium × aurantium—in the catalog of substances that are traditionally both food and medicine.

The following is the latest list of food-medicine substances (106 kinds) for 2025.
